I’m deeply fascinated by meaning and how we each choose to shape it for ourselves. The events in our lives are completely colored by our own meaning-making. This endless amount of perspective can move us to a deeper understanding of ourselves, our neighbors, and our world—if we let it.

I believe that meaning is meant to change and be fluid. Thus, I am always encouraging those I engage with to be specific, go deeper into the story of what they mean, reminding them they can change their minds about how they see or saw something, acknowledging that all feelings along the way are valid and real.

Something really special happens when I sit and think with another human being, when we swim far into that mysterious space together and explore. It’s safer than we’d think, but it feels scary because we don’t often turn our focused compassion toward our headspaces. Each and every one of us has an extraordinary relationship with our minds, and this relationship is like any other in that it requires attention, nourishment, and understanding. And indeed, within the structuring of that relationship we can make a plethora of decisions that shift the dynamics at play.
Play. That’s how thinking feels to me. Pondering, contemplating, musing—this can be fun. The mind is a creative space. Deep and playful. It acts as a portal, a direct connection to the unknown, to mysteries unsolvable and beautiful. We can play in the unknown, and perhaps grow more comfortable there. We can learn to accept that which we cannot control, and begin to take responsibility for that which we can.

The meaning we make is one of the first things we understand as children. Prior to our educations, we use our imaginations to color everything in. As adults, we can reclaim that immense power.

Together, we can reshape your definitions to align less with your fears and insecurities, less with the restricting ideas you've absorbed from society, and more with your dreams, desires, and passions.
